ths [28 Nov 2009|10:17am]
I feel horrible about all that's happening at the Toronto Humane Society:

Five senior officials including the president, and chief veterinarian were arrested on animal cruelty charges, and the entire board of directors charged.

I do think it was needed... Tim and his board of directors really to need to go, and they seem to have the system rigged up so that no one outside of his clan can get in. It seems like the media was somehow informed (invited?) to the arrests. It's a total media circus, which on one hand I feel is wrong, but on the other hand, perhaps it was necessary to help bring about change? I'm not sure.

Then the news that really made me sick to my stomach - the discovery of a mummified cat in a trap (warning - do not watch the video, if you do not want to see said cat). Bad enough that they have feral cats running around in their ceilings that they need to trap, but to set the trap and then never check it? That is the most horrible, sickening thing ever -- that cat starved to death in the trap!

I really hope this brings about the change that is needed for the THS - it's such an important organization in Toronto, and I've been doing my part to help bring about the change.

Thanksgiving [26 Nov 2009|09:54am]
Although our Thanksgiving in early October is my favourite weekend, which is mostly due to it being the best time of year, so I wouldn't trade it for anything -- I can't help but being a little jealous of your time off right now while I'm sitting here at work ;)

Happy Thanksgiving American friends!

funny cat story? [23 Nov 2009|07:04pm]
I have a basket of socks (rolled to keep them in pairs) in the laundry room waiting for mending.

The other day Sid runs by with a pair of socks in his mouth and Harold points it out "he's been running around with those socks in his mouth". Then I started seeing random pairs of balled up socks here and there all over the house - he must almost have the basket empty by now.

I guess this is a good sign that I should mend them now... at least the ones I can find!

You'd think that they don't have a huge box of cat toys or something - sheesh!

retainers [03 Nov 2009|07:18pm]
Called the ortho yesterday - told him I couldn't stand the permanent retainer on the top and that I would really prefer a hawley.  He really tried to talk me out of it, but in the end said that if that's what I want, we can do that.  He said he's done thousands and no one has said they'd like their permanent retainer out.  I said "I really want it out".  He explained that he thinks my teeth will relapse without the permanent retainer, even with the removable one worn every night... but I think it's a chance I have to take.  I HATE this retainer more and more each day, which doesn't lead me to believe that I'll get used to it.

So tomorrow I will be having the top retainer removed.  I know he said we'd talk about it when I get there, which obviously means he's going to try and talk me out of it again, but I am POSITIVE that I do not want the permanent retainer.

I'm actually nervous about the appointment.  I know I'll have to stand my ground and insist I want it removed.

new family member! [03 Nov 2009|10:58am]
My cousin Kristen had her baby last night or this morning... not sure which.

When I got back from swimming this morning, Harold says "Kristen had the baby!" showing me his cell phone, which had been beeping since before I had left. Totally unexpected since she was over a month early. Her text message said "Baby boy has arrived no name and will have to stay in hospital for a bit 5 12 only 3 hour 45 minute labour im good". I assume that means he is 5lbs 12oz (either that or born at 5:12am).

The weird thing is that today is the day my uncle (her father) is having back surgery. I think (hope!) at the same hospital. My aunt must be beside herself!  I sure hope everyone is ok!

Just got another txt - they ARE in the same hosptial. She says "yes, he saw his grandchild". I just read that to my co-worker and then cried... (I'm such a sap!)

I hope I can visit tonight.

Sooooooooooooooo hard to concentrate today!  Happy and worried about everyone all at the same time.

Due to the amount of candy given out, I estimate we had about 110 kids to our door this Halloween. At least all the chocolate is gone!

Was hoping to do a ritual with Harold tonight, but I think I'll just talk to a few dearly departed, and go to bed.

stupid permanent retainers... [30 Oct 2009|12:56pm]
I am the most miserable girl...
why?
It's these retainers!

- I am lisping
- food gets constantly caught in them
and by FAR the worst thing:
- my TONGUE is sooooo SORE!

The pain to my tongue is actually keeping me up at night...
I don't see how I can possibly ever get used to having this for the REST OF MY LIFE!
:(
I honestly would rather have the crooked teeth, even after dealing with it all for the last 7 months and spending like $6-7K, I would rather have crooked teeth back than have to suffer through these permanent retainers for the rest of my life.

I've sent the orthodontist an email to ask if there is any other options.

Very very sad and in pain.

1 year and 7 months later... and the orthodontics are doneish!

Today I got the bumps off and permanent retainers behind the top and bottom teeth. Net week I get the removable retainer for night time use on the top.

So far, they're pretty annoying, but apparently I'll get used to them...

busy weekend... & Dutchie's home! [26 Oct 2009|02:18pm]
Busy weekend!

Our close friend's 2 year old's birthday party on Saturday
Cousin's Baby Shower on Sunday

And because mom was coming down to go with me to the shower, we had to clean up the house first (so it didn't look like a TOTAL disaster), and show her our bedroom, since I was shocked in the summer when she said she hadn't seen it since we painted it and got our wardrobes. Now to think of it... I haven't done photo's either - guess I should!

So I went shopping for the Baby Shower last week and was impressed with the gifts I found.  Of course I wonder still since I am not up on the baby stuffs  :P

Stonz Wear boots:

My Little Seat
:

Stainless Steel Child's dishware set
:

And all three Canadian!

And since mom was coming down for the shower, and it's almost vet time -- DUTCHIE IS HOME :)

Harold had him outside the backyard a lot on Sunday, so he's adjusting not too badly.

I actually really enjoy my drives to work at this time of year, as the Don Valley is just so beautiful.

I didn't take these pics, but here is some Don Valley colour  :)

[19 Jan 2009|07:15pm]
Started back to yoga yesterday at Downward Dog Beach with their Intro to Yoga course.  I took the intro course first back in November 2007, and then continued on with drop-in classes regularly until August (when life got too busy), but since it's been 5 months or so I figured I'd take the intro course again to brush up on the skills before getting right back into it.

My first intro teacher (David Robson) was a lot more intense and led a much more difficult intro course than the current teacher (Sarah Nixon).  It was good though, and I could tell that I hadn't totally lost the skills, though I was much weaker.  Can't wait to get back to my favourite teacher's (Jane Loney) classes!

It felt really good to be back into it - focusing on me.

Now I just have to practise getting up early to do wii so that I'll eventually be used to getting up and I can start swimming again.  Goal for start of swimming - February 4.
